An investigation carried out by researchers at the University of East London has revealed that people who don't neglect drinking water during the day have sharper minds than the ones who do.

The specialists say that just one glass of water can make a person's brain work about 14% faster, especially if that person happens to be thirsty.

Most people are used to ignoring thirst. The bad news is that the brain is constantly keeping tabs on this sensation and keeps focusing on it even when we aren't aware of the fact that it does so.

Precious mental resources are wasted in this manner, Daily Mail reports.

By drinking a glass of water, people free their brains of the need to think about thirst. Once freed, the brain can switch to focusing on the tasks it is supposed to accomplish.

“These results are consistent with water consumption freeing up attentional resources that were otherwise occupied with processing the sensations of thirst.

“It is not going to hurt you to have a drink of water when you are working hard,” the researchers comment on their findings.
