Eating lots of fruits and veggies doesn't just help people stay healthy and fit. On the contrary, this habit also has a beneficial impact on one's mental wellbeing.

Researchers in Finland say that, according to evidence at hand, people who mainly eat junk food are more likely to suffer from depression.

Those who consume fruits and veggies on a regular basis, on the other hand, tend to be in a much better mood most of the time.

Nutritionist Anu Ruusunen with the University of Eastern Finland suspects that, all things considered, people who chiefly eat hamburgers, pizza and the like are more vulnerable to depression and other similar problems due to the fact that their body does not get all the nutrients it needs.

Therefore, depression prevention strategies should also focus on encouraging people to eat healthy, and stay clear of junk food.

“The study reinforces the hypothesis a healthy diet has potential not only in the warding off of depression, but also in its prevention,” Anu Ruusunen says, as cited by Daily Mail.
