The June 2008 Security Releases ISO Image is available for download containing critical fixes for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Service Pack 3, as well as additional supported Windows platforms. On June 10, 2008, Microsoft made available for download no
less than seven security bulletins impacting exclusively Windows client and server operating systems and their default components. Three of the bulletins have been labeled with a severity rating of Critical, as they allow remote code execution, another three are Important with just one Moderate. The Redmond company included all seven items in the June 2008 Security Releases ISO Image, a package weighing as much as 2455.4 MB.

Traditionally, Microsoft bundles its security bulletins for Windows into a DVD5 ISO image file and make them available for download in order to address the needs of administrators that do not use Windows Server Update Services, but have to access patches in multiple language versions. The ISO package essentially makes available simultaneously the security updates in all languages supported by Microsoft for Windows.

"The vendor is releasing seven bulletins that cover a total of 10 vulnerabilities. Of those, four are rated "Critical", four are rated "Important", and two are rated "Moderate." While most of the critical vulnerabilities are the ever popular client-side issues (DirectX and Internet Explorer), the remaining issue in Bluetooth could allow an attacker within physical range of an affected computer to exploit the issue and take complete control of that computer. The remaining issues affect WINS, Active Directory, Speech API, and PGM," stated Symantec Researcher Robert Keith.

Via the June 2008 Security Releases ISO Image, Microsoft is serving all seven security bulletins released this week. Out of the Pleiades of patches, users should focus first on MS08-030, MS08-031 and MS08-033, all rated Critical. The first deals with vulnerability in the Bluetooth Stack, the second is the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer while the third patches various versions of Internet Explorer. The third Critical Security Bulletins affect a wide range of Windows client and server platforms, including XP SP3 and Vista SP1.
