A judge from the province of Chubut in southern Argentina delayed an assault trial because a lawyer was not wearing a tie.

As Mirror reports, Judge Daniel Arguiano suspended the hearing for two hours accusing a defense lawyer of “lack of decency and respect” towards the court.

When asked by the judge why he wasn't wearing a tie, Lawyer Oscar Romero replied that “It's a matter of principles.” Romero not only practices the profession as a private attorney, but he also presides over the State Bar of Trelew.

After hearing his reply, the judge called a recess and left the dais, asking the lawyer to comply with the requirement.

When the break was over, Romero returned without a tie, but accompanied by officials of the Bar Association who explained that no regulation required them to wear a tie during the court hearings.

The attitude of the judge awakened a latent controversy in the judiciary world regarding the proper wardrobe in court.
