Word in the industry has it that the “Terminator” franchise is up for sale. According to several reports surfaced just recently, owners of “Terminator” want to rid themselves of it since they can’t possibly see any way in which they could make money off it in the future. “Buffy” creator Joss Whedon has also heard the rumors, which is why he’s officially making an offer for it, as Whedon’s World can confirm.

Whedon wants to buy “Terminator,” he says in the open letter directed to “Terminator-Owners” (because he has serious problems remembering names), and is willing to pay the amazing sum of $10,000 for it. Moreover, Whedon even goes as far as detailing his plans as regards the future of the franchise, including the elements he’s to explore in future films that will make it interesting for fans again, in what has been deemed one of the funniest mock “open letters” ever penned by such a big player in the industry as Whedon is.

“An Open Letter to the Terminator Owners From a Very Important Hollywood Mogul. I am Joss Whedon, the mastermind behind Titan A.E., Parenthood (not the movie) (or the new series) (or the one where ‘hood’ was capitalized ‘cause it was a pun), and myriad other legendary tales. I have heard through the ‘grapevine’ that the Terminator franchise is for sale, and I am prepared to make a pre-emptive bid RIGHT NOW to wrap this dealio up. This is not a joke, this is not a scam, this is not available on TV. I will write a check TODAY for $10,000, and viola! Terminator off your hands.” Whedon begins his letter by saying.

He then goes on to explain in detail which are the things that he’ll try to explore more in future “Terminator” films, granted the “Terminator-Owners” take him up on the offer. Given that the last film in the franchise, “Terminator: Salvation,” was many years in the making and subject of many lawsuits until it came to happen, yet still proved to be somewhat of a box-office disappointment, it’s not hard to understand why Whedon is the first to poke fun at the entire situation. After all, “Terminator” is one of the most successful and beloved movie franchises ever, so rumor of owners wanting to sell it is funny, albeit worrying as well.

“Okay. There’s more – this brain don’t quit! (though it has occasionally been fired) – but I think you get my drift. I really believe the Terminator franchise has only begun to plumb the depths of questioning the human condition during awesome stunts, and I’d like to shepherd it through the next phase. The money is there, but more importantly, the heart is there. But more importantly, money. Think about it. End this bloody bidding war before it begins, and put the Terminator in the hands of someone who watched the first one more than any other movie in college, including ‘Song of Norway’ (no current franchise offer). Sincerely, Joss Whedon.” Whedon ends his letter by saying.
