Joss Whedon did an amazing job with Marvel’s first “Avengers” film, and based on early reports, he did just as fine a work on the sequel “Age of Ultron,” opening wide in theaters on May 1. However, this is his final movie with Marvel, but if he had a choice, he would probably move to Warner Bros. next, to work on a DC Comics movie.

Much like is the case with “Star Wars” and “Star Trek,” the respective fandoms believe that Marvel and Warners’ superhero franchises are in direct opposition. As such, one director should not be able or allowed to migrate from one to the other.

J.J. Abrams did it, when he moved from “Star Trek Into Darkness” to “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens,” and Whedon would love if he could too, he admits in a new interview with MTV News. See it below.

He would love to have a crack at Batman but even if he never gets the chance, he wants the world to know that he’s a fan.

“Competition for what? Their movies are so different. The way they approach them - the Marvel aesthetic and the DC aesthetic - couldn’t be more opposite. I love that. I love going to their movies. I want to see how they build their team. I want to see Affleck play Batman. Now I just get to sit back and be a fan of both,” he says.

For the time being, Warners has its heart set on Zack Snyder as their go-to director: he already did “Man of Steel” and the upcoming “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and he will also direct “Justice League Part One” and “Justice League Part Two.” As far as we know, Warners doesn’t plan a standalone Batman movie.
