Joseph Gordon-Levitt has already made his directorial debut with “Don Jon,” which was well received by critics and fans alike. Now, word is that the actor-director is about to seal the deal to produce the Warner Bros. film “Sandman” alongside David Goyer.

The film is going to be based on the Neil Gaiman comic book classic that shifts between horror and fantasy to tell the story of Morpheus, the embodiment of dreams.

He was held captive for 70 years and, after his escape, he seeks revenge and the opportunity to rebuild his now crumbling empire.

It looks like Gordon-Levitt is the perfect candidate to play Morpheus at this time, but the actor is also eyeing the director's chair. He is already accustomed to appearing in comic-book inspired films, after starring in “The Dark Knight Rises,” and is also billed to star in the Frank Miller graphic novel sequel “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.”

“The Sandman” was a comic published between 1989 and 1996 by DC Comics and it lasted for 75 issues. It appears that Warner Bros. has been looking to turn it into a film for some time now, but only recently has the project reached maturity.
