“The Walk,” the film based on Philippe Petit’s 1974 attempt to cross the Twin Towers on a wire, has finally gotten a first trailer. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film will be out in 3D and IMAX in October, after screening next month at the 2015 New York Film Festival.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the famous highwire artist, rocking a very unconvincing wig and his best attempt at a French accent. The trailer shows him picking the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center for his next stunt and the difficulties he was faced with before he got to make his attempt.

I have to say this: I saw a teaser for this in 3D and even though the full trailer urges you to see the film in this format because it will be an experience like no other before, with the teaser, I couldn’t shake the feeling that what I was watching wasn’t real.

The 3D itself was OK but the VFX left a lot to be desired, hence that “artificial” feeling. It’s not uncommon for trailers to include lower-quality VFX, and for movie studios to fix these issues before the final release, after more post-production work.

For Gordon-Levitt, I hope this is one of those cases, but this trailer isn’t too convincing for me in this sense. How about you? Does “The Walk” look like something you’d want to pay the premium ticket price for? Let me know in the comments.
