Jose Mourinho has big plans for the future. And they all involve Chelsea. As far as the Portuguese coach is concerned, he will not leave the Stanford Bridge club until Chelsea will be crowned champion of the world. And that means winning the Champions League will not be enough. Mourinho aims for the FIFA Club World Cup.
"It is not correct I will quit if we win it. I made that
mistake once when I left after winning the Champions League at Porto. That allowed another manager to go and win the Inter-Continental Cup. I don't want that to happen this time. I want to win the Inter-Continental Cup myself", said Mourinho to "The Sun".
The Portuguese coach led his former side FC Porto all the way into the CL final, where Porto thrashed AS Monaco 3-0. Soon after, Mourinho chose to take up another challenge and replaced Claudio Ranieri as Chelsea head coach. The Italian warned Mourinho that, unless he wins the Champions League this season, Roman Abramovich will certainly sack him.
As for the new European season, the Portuguese admitted that winning the CL is something at least 10 more clubs in Europe aim for. Therefore, despite Chelsea's remarkable transfers this summer, Mourinho will have to fight hard for the title. And meeting Barcelona in the group stages is the first step towards it.
The FIFA Club World Cup has been won by only one Premiership side in the last 7 years. Manchester United clinched the trophy in 1999, while Liverpool - the other side who played the final - failed to pass Sao Paolo last year.
