Chelsea had no problem in clinching their second European success this season. After smashing Werder Bremen 2-0 on Stanford Bridge, Jose Mourinho’s players gave Levski Sofia a taste of powerful football last night. Although they conceded in the end, Chelsea marched on to a convincing 3-1 win and, consequently, the leadership of Group A.
"
We
have six points and lead our Champions League group and lead the Premiership, but we still have players with space to improve. When we are winning 3-0 we have to keep a better control of the game. Petr Cech had to make four or five saves", said the meticulous Mourinho at the end.
He added: "
The victory was very important. We knew it was not going to be easy. When we are 2-0 and 3-0 up we have to keep better control of the game. In the last part of the game we did not play very well. So I am just a little disappointed because we didn't control the last bit".
Chelsea gave away their perfect defensive record in the 89th minute of their Levski away, when 18-year old Ognyanov penetrated the English defense and produced a cool finish past Cech.
As for Chelsea’s offensive effort, the Portuguese coach gave Ivorian Didier Drogba another boost at the press conference, praising not only his goal-scoring, but also his important contribution to his team’s game. As far as Mourinho is concerned, Drogba has become one of Chelsea’s key players.
"
He's scoring goals and he's on fire at the moment. He is scoring in England and in Europe, but he is playing well and not just scoring goals. He is very confident and this is a beautiful moment for him", concluded the Portuguese.
As far as Chelsea’s rivals in Group A, Barcelona, Mourinho was not at all happy – as expected – with Barcelona’s draw at Bremen. More, the result in Germany made him realize that Group A will not be that easy for the two European giants as it seemed at the beginning.
"
It means the group is very strong. Normally when you have Barcelona and Chelsea in the same group at this moment it should be six points and six points. We have six points, but I think we have to get about 10 or 11. We have to go to Barcelona and Bremen, two difficult matches", said Mourinho.
