The creator of the original and the remake of Karateka believes that the unique rhythm combat system he created for the game opens up a number of new possibilities for modern video games.

The Jordan Mecher made title subtly changes music and camera angles as combat progresses and allows players to adapt their own moves to those of the enemy.

The developer tells Touch Arcade that, “It is different. We knew we were taking a risk by using a mechanic that was new, but hopefully it achieves, in a different way, some of the same things that the original game did on the Apple II.”

At first, fights in Karateka can seem simple and annoying, but as the game progresses, the routines of the enemies evolve and players will need quick reflexes and good memory in order to win fights.
