John Ramsey's lawyers fear the public backlash following the disclosure of the files

John Ramsey, the father of JonBenet Ramsey, is vocally opposing the public release against him and his wife, the child's mother.

Six-year-old JonBenet was killed in 1996, and her parents were initially indicted for the murder. However, the charges were dropped.

Ramsey argues that the public release of the files will humiliate and defame the couple. The pair's attorneys, Harold Haddon and Bryan Morgan, also explain that the Ramseys will have no means of defending themselves from the allegations and public backlash.

"Mr. Ramsey will have no access to whatever evidence the prosecutors presented to the grand jury and will have no ability to disprove those allegations in a court of law. Nor will the public have any ability to evaluate the propriety of the indictment unless the entire grand jury record is unsealed and opened to public view," they explain.

The Daily Camera detailed that the motion was filed on Monday with Chief Trial Deputy Sean Finn.

The release of the files would come after a lawsuit for disclosure by Daily Camera reporter Charlie Brennan and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.
