Give him a chance as host of The Daily Show, Stewart asks

Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show on Comedy Central after 16 years, with his replacement being found last week in the person of contributor Trevor Noah. Older tweets from the younger comedian landed him in hot water shortly after the announcement, but Stewart urges fans to put that aside for a second.

Most of the offensive tweets from Noah were jokes about Jews and women, with the expected variations on fat women, makeup, the Israel conflict, and how the Jews run showbiz.

Comedy Central refused to budge to pressure from Twitter commenters and fire him, saying that he deserved a shot. Noah too defended himself by basically saying that you can’t judge a man or a comedian’s worth by a handful of older tweets.

Jon Stewart is saying pretty much the same thing: in the video below is his response to the backlash, worded much better that the network statement, or even Noah’s which was posted to Twitter.

Stewart refers to the backlash as of a “kerfuffle” and duly points out that many hated him too during his time as host on the show. The difference is that they only did so after they’d given him a chance as host, which is what Noah deserves too.

“My experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual, and man, I think, you give him that time, and it’s going to be well worth it,” he says.
