Jon Hamm further explains Kim Kardashian diss, says he didn't mean it personally

“Mad Men” star Jon Hamm caused quite a media storm earlier this week, when he talked about Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and our celebrity culture, saying that, today, being an “idiot” was rewarded. He's now saying he didn't mean that as an offense to Kim.

Shortly after Hamm's comments made their way online, Kim Kardashian was already on her Twitter, putting him in his place.

She's a businesswoman, a successful reality star, a designer, a writer and everything else in between, she said. Stupid was the last thing in the world that she was.

Asked how he reacted to word that Kim had responded to his “diss” on Twitter, Jon made sure he explained where he stood, E! Online informs.

He did not mean those comments to be taken as a personal insult to Kim, he says. He doesn't know her personally, so he just used her name as an example of today's culture.

“It’s surprising to me that it has become remotely a story,” Hamm says for E!, this being the network that made the Kardashians into the highest earning reality stars of recent years.

“I don’t know Ms. Kardashian, I know her public persona. What I said was meant to be more on pervasiveness of something in our culture, not personal, but she took offense to it and that is her right,” the actor explains.

His initial comments, for those who somehow missed out on the whole “feud” were:

“Whether it's Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a [expletive]-ing idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you're rewarded significantly. Incuriousness has become cool… It’s celebrated. It doesn’t make sense to me.”

It didn't make sense to Kim either to have him name-drop her like that.

In a post on her Twitter page, she said Hamm calling her stupid was “careless” to say the least.
