If there’s a lesson to be learned from the Gosselins, once TLC’s (and America’s) most successful reality TV family, that is that fame comes and goes, and so does money. The dad of 8 is now living in a cabin in the woods with no Internet or TV, and waits tables for a living.

ET caught up with Jon for an update on his life after he slowly fell out of favor with viewers at home after his marriage to Kate Gosselin went bust, on account of his infidelity.

Below is his most recent interview.

Though his life is much simpler now and he has to work hard at a steady job, Jon says he doesn’t regret any decision he made, including that of opening up his home for reality cameras.

Having “hit rock bottom” multiple times and bounced back up again, he now boasts a better understanding of life and what’s most important about it.

He doesn’t want to say how much money he’s lost but he insists that he’s happy now, perhaps even happier than back in the day when he was a star and he had everything handed to him on a silver platter.
