“I didn’t know if Charlie was going to be living another week,” Cryer recalls

Jon Cryer, the other lead of “Two and a Half Men,” has recently been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just as a brand new season of the show kicks off without Charlie Sheen. He’s also featured in a brand new interview in The Hollywood Reporter.

Speaking of Charlie Sheen, who has now been replaced by Ashton Kutcher on the show, Cryer admits he actually feared for his life for a while, as the media scandal picked up speed.

He was shocked to hear that Charlie had been fired, but was also very sad because he didn’t know his state of mind, except for what he read in the press – and, let’s face it, that wasn’t good.

“[I felt] a combination of shock and sadness because this wasn’t the way anybody wanted the show to end,” Cryer tells THR of his reaction to news that Sheen had been let out of his contract.

“And then fear – because at that point, let’s face it, I didn’t know if Charlie was going to be living another week,” the comedian adds.

What he read in the press wasn’t helping either, especially since he didn’t know whether any of those stories came from reputable, verified sources.

For instance, Jon recalls, he’d often read about a “feud” between Sheen and “Men” creator Chuck Lorre, but he never saw anything even remotely close to one on the set.

“The weird thing for me was this mythology that was created about the show and a feud between Chuck [Lorre] and Charlie. The tabloids took this whole thing and ran with it, and I just never saw it,” he tells THR.

“Actors always have things that they’re not thrilled about on a show and have a hobby of bellyaching about those things. Charlie had his share of them, but nothing along the lines of an explosion,” Jon adds.

In the same interview, he also talks about how he got the news that Ashton Kutcher would come on the show to replace Sheen, how working with him has been so far, and whether he thinks the series still has life in it.
