A fake news story that claims the rock legend Jon Bon Jovi was found dead at a hotel in New Jersey is circulating all over social media websites. In reality, this is nothing more than a hoax that spams users and may even hide a malicious operation.

While this might be considered by some as being a funny scam, the links that join such a false message can always point to a website that hosts some piece of malware that instantly infects the computers of the users who access it.

Jon Bon Jovi found out about the hoax and even posted a picture on his Facebook profile while holding up a piece of paper that says "Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey".

Before accessing or forwarding a piece of news that seems outrageous or shocking, think about the fact that you’re actually helping cybercriminals earn money. Even though it may be hard to believe, the spam messages, especially those that come with a link, one way or the other fill the pockets of those who send them.
