Finnish startup Jolla is getting ready for a broader availability of its Sailfish OS-based smartphone, after launching the handset in Europe last year, and will bring the device to India within the next month.

Today, the company officially announced plans on the matter, while also confirming that it would partner with local retailer Snapdeal for the launch.

“India is the rising smartphone market of the world. We have received a tremendous amount of interest… to enter this great market,” Jolla co-founder and CMO Sami Pienimäkiin said in a statement, according to TNW.

India is one of the largest emerging markets for smartphones, and Jolla could very well prove successful there, especially if their handset sports a great price tag.

In India, cheap smartphones that can deliver appealing performance capabilities are the most sought after, and Jolla will have to keep that in mind when pricing their phone.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Jolla handset runs under the Sailfish OS, which has been built as a truly open and distinct mobile operating system, providing users with the possibility to navigate through menus and apps via a gesture-based user interface.

On top of that, the operating system comes with support for Android applications, which means that users will be able to enjoy a wide range of great software at all times.
