For some, Jolla is Nokia’s real successor on the smartphone market, not Microsoft. This is one of the reasons the company’s first smartphone running MeeGo, an operating system that Nokia dropped over Microsoft’s Windows Phone, has so many fans out there.

The first Jolla smartphone runs Sailfish OS, a mix of Linux and MeeGo elements, which is mostly based on gestures and swipes. The Finnish company released quite a few updates, which bring lots of new features and major improvements, in the last couple of months.

Even if the Jolla smartphone does not sell by the millions like other flagship smartphones launched by more important handset makers, it still has a strong community of users and developers alike.

This is probably why Jolla has decided to bring another Sailfish OS-powered smartphone this year. Since the previous model has become rather obsolete in comparison with other high-end devices available on the market, this is a good moment for Jolla to refresh its lineup of products.

What better time to release a new smartphone then closer to the holiday season when everyone is looking to buy something for their loved ones.

In this regard, Jolla recently posted a countdown to an announcement that’s supposed to expire on November 19. The day Jolla decided to unveil a new product coincides with Slush conference, where some of the most important startups in Europe and Asia get together to meet investors, executives and media from all over the world.

The new smartphone would be larger than the previous Jolla device

Judging by the teaser posted on Jolla’s website and on one of the company’s social accounts, there’s a high chance that the announcement will be about a new smartphone.

Also, the tagline teasing the device, “Something BIG is about to begin,” points to a much larger smartphone than the Jolla device, which sports a 4.5-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution display.

If Jolla plans to launch another smartphone by the end of the year, we expect it to be much more powerful than the current model, which is equipped with a 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit.

Memory-wise, the Jolla phone packs 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, but users can further expand storage up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

Fans who want to be among the first to know what’s this all about can leave their email address on the company’s official website and they will be notified when Jolla goes live with the upcoming announcement. We will also keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter, so stay tuned.
