Jolicloud, one of the original and most touted ‘cloud’ operating systems, has finally hit the 1.0 mark. With the release of Jolicloud 1.0, most of the work has been done and the OS should be considered feature-complete. It has gone through several big changes and upgrades during the development cycle. If you haven’t used it in a while, Jolicloud 1.0 major highlights are touchscreen support, a new HTML5-based app launcher and a Windows installer.

[E]veryone has been migrated to Jolicoud 1.0! Users that are downloading the current Jolicloud are automatically upgraded to the new version. The brand new Windows Installer and ISO for the 1.0 are being finalized, and they should be available for download shortly,” Tariq Krim, founder of Jolicloud, announced.

As you may have seen, we’ve made some changes to the Stream, making it a more social app-sharing experience. Now, in Jolicloud 1.0, you can ‘like’ apps, which will show up in your Stream. It will also list the app in your ‘Favorite Apps’,” he added.

Jolicloud 1.0 has been available to existing users for a couple of weeks now through the automatic update system. However, a pre-release version was only available at the site. Jolicloud has finally gotten around to releasing the ISO and the Windows installer so the Ubuntu-based OS can be considered officially launched.

One of the big new features of Jolicloud 1.0 is the new HTML5 launched. The launcher functions as a web interface to the operating system and the installed apps. It syncs to the cloud so it will be the same on any machine you log into with your credentials.

Another big addition, especially for the future of Jolicloud, is support for touchscreens. This means that the OS is ready for tablet devices which are becoming increasingly popular at the detriment of netbooks, for which Jolicloud was originally intended.

Another nice touch, if you’re currently running Windows and don’t want to mess with it, is the new Windows-based installer, which enables you to install Jolicloud and set up a dual-boot configuration from inside Windows.
