Olympic skater and husband of 3 years take their problems to court, the media

Olympic skater Johnny Weir has always been fascinating and not only because of his accomplishments on the ice, but also for his flamboyant style and his willingness to open up to the media on topics other celebrities would rather not discuss. As it turns out, his divorce from Victor Voronov is almost among them.

The two were married 3 years ago and, while there was no sign of marital problems a few months ago, things seem to have deteriorated very quickly. Weir filed for divorce late this week, with Voronov saying he was blindsided to hear that.

On Friday, the two were in court again: Vonorov to get a restraining order against Weir for domestic violence, the ice champ to demand to be allowed to remove his possessions from the Manhattan apartment he had shared with Victor until just recently.

TMZ reports that both requests were granted, but they also revealed more details into the couple’s split, which, apparently, is anything but amicable.

Voronov accuses Weir of attacking him during a very heated argument and biting him on his arm with such strength that he nearly took a chunk off it. In response, Weir claims that he only bit his husband in self-defense because he had come home drunk and had tried to force him into having relations whilst having an argument.

And it gets even nastier: Weir says that the argument started after Voronov took his frustrations out on his collection of designer bags. Apparently, the skating champ wasn’t faithful to his man, so when his man found out, he exacted revenge on his most prized accessories: Hermes Birkin, Chanel, and Celine bags.

An original Hermes usually costs upwards of $10,000 (€7,249), with the price going up to $70,000 (€50,746) for collectors items or the newest designs. It’s no wonder that Weir is furious and he told the court he even has proof of the damage an irate Voronov caused, in the form of an email he sent him after the fact.

“If you decide to wreck things, please wreck cheaper things than Birkins. The ‘[expletive] you’ on the Birkin is kinda cool, though, you artist. I know you don’t care about how I’ll survive if you divorce me, but please leave my Birkin bags, Celine bags and Chanel bags alone,” Weir wrote in it.

The two are effectively separated now, with Weir taking the family dog from the apartment some hours ago. He’s talking to the media about the divorce, saying that he was the one who was abused in the relationship, both verbally and physically, sometimes even in front of guests.

Voronov, on his part, has hired a crisis manager and plans to fight Weir for damning statement.
