Following the release of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' on July 6, Johnny Depp openly admitted that the character of Jack is, quote, 'a blast to play' and that he intends not to give him up too soon.
The producing studio has already started filming the third sequel to the mega box-office hit, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End', simultaneously with the second part, but it will go into cinemas only in May 2007.
When asked if he gave up acting as an art in order to play in a more money-making movie, Johnny defended himself in front of his fans, saying that he doesn't consider Jack Sparrow's character as just a role meant to make him a handful of money ($20 million for part one, to be more exact). He obviously likes what he's doing right now and he plans to stick around for a couple of years more, if it's possible.
Depp considers a 4th, 5th and 6th sequel to the movie: 'if the script is good, why not?'. Reportedly, he is still wearing the gold veneers on his teeth until the production for the third 'Pirates' movie is completed.
Johnny Depp was, until 2003, known for his parts in rather marginal Hollywood movies, with relatively insignificant impact on the public but, nonetheless, very interesting, stimulating and well played. With 'The Curse of the Black Pearl' he received his first Oscar nomination.
