Gwyneth Paltrow has been doing a lot of press for “Mortdecai,” her latest film with Johnny Depp, out in theaters on Friday, and it’s now his turn to finally start promoting it. He kicked off his campaign with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, where he was accompanied by fiancée Amber Heard.

Take that haters who say they’re nearly broken up!

Obviously, Amber didn’t join him for the actual interview, but they arrived and left hand in hand, and she was probably backstage as he did his stuff with Kimmel. Of the things discussed was Depp’s upcoming movie with 15-year-old daughter Lily Rose, how she’s a natural at acting, how they played Barbies and he’d develop characters using the dolls, and how he always has music playing in his ear as he’s shooting for a film.

That last part may sound a bit strange because, as Kimmel puts it, it would prevent him from hearing what his co-stars are saying, but Depp says it’s something he got from his co-star, good friend and mentor, the late Marlon Brando.

We’re all living our lives to the tune of our personal soundtrack, even if we’re not aware of it. Music helps him stay in character, and most importantly, stay in that character’s universe.

Still, his anecdote about Brando is funny, and it’s not hard to imagine he gets the same shocked looks from his own co-stars. Check it out in the first video below.
