14 DAY TRIAL // Even before Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis announced they were no longer an item, rumors had it that he and his “Rum Diary” co-star Amber Heard had had a fling, which reportedly continued until just recently. She was the one who asked for some time off, says a new report.
These past several months, Depp has been linked with many women in the press, including Amber and his own publicist.
Radar Online writes that he and Amber did have a thing but chances are it was never too serious, because they've recently called it off.
Admittedly, they did not like the attention – mostly negative – they were getting in the press because of the romance, with many a tabloid painting Amber as “the other woman.”
“Johnny and Amber were definitely involved. They definitely had chemistry carried over from the set. Amber quietly split from Tasya around the same time Johnny was secretly separated from Vanessa, so the timing was just right,” an inside source says for Radar.
“They were hooking up for months – way before he publicly announced that he and Vanessa had split up. They did a really good job of keeping their relationship on the down low for a while, especially since many people assumed that Amber was only into girls,” adds the spy.
However, when news broke that they were an item, many assumed that Depp had cheated on Vanessa with Amber, which isn't what happened, as the source underlines above.
Amber in particular was very upset at being presented as a homewrecker.
“Amber has never wanted that sort of attention. She prides herself on being free-thinking and independent – not some homewrecker trying to sleep her way to the top,” another source says for the same publication.
“As soon as the media started publicizing the romance, she told Johnny that she needed some space. The crazy thing was that Johnny actually split from Vanessa at the end of last year, so she didn’t break them up, but because they didn’t announce their relationship was over until June, people were painting her as some kind of scarlet lady, which she is far from being,” adds the insider.
Amber hasn't yet decided whether she's done with Johnny for good, with the same unnamed source saying that she actually likes him a lot – just not the drama that their romance has caused.
Perhaps when the dust settles, they will have a future, the source muses but, for the time being, they are no longer romantically involved.
