14 DAY TRIAL // Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp have been together for about 11 years, all this while often prompting talk of upcoming nuptials. This is Hollywood’s most private couple, though, so chances are that, even if they did get married, the media would not know. Which is why this recent interview with Paradis, cited by OK! Magazine on her life with Johnny Depp is not something one would come to expect.
As also noted above, this is one of the most discrete couples in showbiz, the two stars always making a point of doing public appearances only when so stipulated in contracts. The rest of the time, they live outside the US, together with their two children, and manage to keep their names out of the headlines. Their relationship, Vanessa now explains, is not one based on love alone, but also on mutual respect and understanding.
“I’d wanted to be a mother for a long time, but with him I couldn’t avoid it. He was, and still is, the love of my life,” the 37-year-old star says, in what is perhaps a first interview of this kind. “There is a lot of friendship between us, respect and admiration. We’ve understood that if we want it to carry on working, it’s essential to give each other space. You don’t eat the same food every day, you don’t read the same book or listen to the same record over and over again. You have to discover things for yourself,” Vanessa goes on to say about her longtime relationship with Depp.
She avoids the topic of marriage, perhaps because many have already insisted too much on it. What she would willingly talk about, though, is what exactly it is that makes Johnny her ideal partner. “I could go on and on about all the things I admire in him. I like watching him when he’s thinking, when he’s talking with people, I like seeing how he handles situations. I admire him as an actor, as a father, as a man. Above all, I admire the person he is. He’s fantastic,” the actress and singer goes on to say.
For those of you wondering how come Depp and Paradis manage to keep their personal life out of the tabloids, the answer is simple, as the actor himself revealed a while back: a private island, to which they retire whenever they have some time off their individual projects.
