Johnny Depp is definitely making Disney into his home: after the success of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, the star will now produce and star in a modern version of “Don Quixote” for the studio, it has emerged.

The project has been in the works for years, but it’s just now that Disney and Depp have managed to reach a final agreement and sign on the dotted line, Paste Magazine reports.

“Depp will produce the film alongside his sister Christi Dembrowski’s production company Infinitum Nihil. Writer of the film, Jeff Morris will bring this classic novel into the modern day world with the help of writer-director Steve Pink,” the e-zine says.

Depp initially worked on getting the modern version of “Don Quixote” done with director Terry Gilliam but he eventually settled on getting it off the ground on his own – or with Disney, more like it.

Paste notes that whether Depp will also star in the film is yet to be determined, but I’d say it’s a given considering his penchant for wacky characters and how well audiences respond to them.
