At the beginning of this month, word got out in the media that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s marriage was in serious trouble and that the two were “on the verge of divorce” after only 62 days since tying the knot.

These reports picked up the other day, with Page Six and People Magazine both reporting trouble on the home front for the A-list star. Then, there was also a rumor saying that Depp had been MIA from the “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” set for far too long, making producers sick with worry that he might delay the production and thus make the film go over the budget.

Johnny and Amber put these rumors to rest some hours ago, with a joint public appearance.

Johnny and Amber land in Australia, walk hand in hand

As you can see in the tweets below, paparazzi and the media in Australia got wind of Depp’s arrival in the country, and they were on hand to give him the proper reception. The actor was accompanied by his new wife, and they walked out of the private jet hand in hand to the car waiting for them.

This is the best denial they could have come up with for the rumors claiming that they’re on the verge of a split: not only is Johnny back to work and showing a bandaged hand to account for his extended absence (he injured his hand on a weekend, cart-wheeling), but he’s also brought Amber along, to show those saying they lead separate lives that they’re still together.

They also seemed in very bright spirits and they made sure to smile and pose for the cameras, thus further enforcing the idea that all was well between them.

A swift PR move

Undoubtedly, this was a conscious move to do some damage control: even if you don’t believe the reports that these two are having issues, such a move was necessary to attempt to make the rumors go away.

The reality is that Amber and Johnny had not been photographed together in some time, and this is always the first sign of trouble with celebrities, especially for a couple like them, who used to do everything together, including red carpet events and premieres.

Another piece of evidence that this is the work of a PR team comes from the fact that People Magazine pulled the story claiming trouble was rearing its ugly head, without as much as an explanation.

PageSix, on the other hand, is sticking by its initial story, namely that Amber has been getting closer to openly bi photographer Io Tillet Wright, and it’s causing friction in her relationship with her husband.
