Celebrities have all joined forces to do their bit for the victims in Haiti, either donating money to several charitable organizations working in the area or taking part in last week’s telethon that managed to raise almost $58 million within 24 hours. John Travolta belongs to the former category, the actor flying his private jet to Haiti, laden with provisions and Scientology ministers, the Huffington Post informs.

This is not just a rumor, either, as the Church of Scientology itself confirms the initiative, sending out a press release in which it is called “Operation Phenomenon.” Some may remember that, a few years back, when several Scientology videos with Tom Cruise accidentally leaked online, believers are convinced it is their responsibility and “duty” to help those in need. More specifically, Cruise was saying at the time that, if a Scientologist drives past a car accident, the Scientologist stops his own car and gets out and drags the victim from the wreckage.

It could be that this “Operation Phenomenon” initiative is also based on the same principle, it is being said. “John Travolta has landed his own jet in Haiti carrying relief supplies and a team including doctors and Scientology ministers. The 55-year-old actor flew the Boeing 707 from Florida on Monday carrying 4 tons of ready-to-eat military rations and medical supplies for earthquake victims. Among those accompanying Travolta is his wife, actress Kelly Preston,” the Post says.

The plane will only return home after unloading the provisions and the passengers, the publication further explains, which might seem to indicate that both Travolta and his wife will remain in Haiti for some time longer. However, the Church of Scientology explains that neither of the two stars remained in Haiti, returning home on the same plane shortly after landing, but bringing with them Haitian-Americans, who were thus “reunited with their families.”

“Travolta, a well-known pilot, offered the services of his own plane and provided the fuel to fly a supply plane down to Haiti to aid relief efforts following the 7.0 earthquake that struck the island on January 12, 2010. The plane carried 7,000 pounds of medical supplies, all of which were purchased with funds provided by Travolta as a donation to the relief efforts. The plane also carried much needed food and water including 4,500 meals-ready-to-eat. Also onboard were 50 doctors, including surgeons, plastic surgeons, trauma specialists, and cardiologists,” the press statement from the Church of Scientology says of the admirable initiative led by actor John Travolta.
