Hollywood actor John Travolta is also a qualified pilot. And the owner of a Boeing 707. And of a runaway outside his house. So he is definitely in the position to honor the promise he has recently made.
After watching the Australian football team qualifying for Germany 2006 in Sydney last week, Travolta offered to fly them to the competition.
He couldn't have thought of a better compliment.
It remains to be seen whether his offer will be accepted by the authorities and by trainers of the national team. They might consider that being flown by Travolta could make players be less focused on the job. But that could also give them extra-motivation.
Travolta reportedly said: "I'd like to play my part for Australia."
He and his wife Kelly Preston are both part of the Mile High Club. They have used their private jets not only for fun, but also for
helping people.
Earlier this year, indignant by the lack of response from American authorities, the two decided to fly their personal jet to deliver five tones of food to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Travolta, a licensed pilot, flew to Baton Rouge, carrying the food supplies for the evacuees and more than 400 doses of tetanus vaccines. The couple then toured the flooded city of New Orleans and visited rescue workers and shelters for the victims.
The actor said: "What we've seen in the shelters is wonderful, because people are being taken care of. What we've seen in the city is disastrous."
