MTV Games and Harmonix, the two companies that guide the destiny of the Rock Band brand, have announced that this week those who are looking for some songs to download and then play alongside their friends over the holidays have a chance to download seven new tracks.

The indisputable star of the downloadable content is “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” which was recorded by John Lennon with Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band.

The song was recorded in New York City in 1971 and benefited from input from famed producer Phil Spector and from the Harlem Community Choir, becoming one of the those tracks that invariable get played over radio in time for Christmas.

In addition to delivering a song which is linked to Christmas, Rock Band is going more international this week, with a large number of countries represented in the package.

The DLC includes:

Anaïs – “Peut-Être une Angine” BB Brunes – “Dis-Moi” X BAP – “Verdamp Lang Her” Wir sind Helden – “Nur ein Wort” Linea 77 – “Fantasma” Litfiba – “Proibito” Caesars – “Jerk It Out”

The songs are all master recordings and can be downloaded on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Nintendo Wii.

There's no pack to include all of the seven songs this week and gamers will need to get them individually, with the price starting at 1.99 dollars, which is the equivalent of 200 Wii Points and 160 Microsoft Points.

All the songs are specifically re-created to take advantage of the new keyboard simulation that is introduced in Rock Band 3.

The “Jerk It Out” song also offers support for both Pro Bass and Pro Guitar, but this comes with an additional cost of 0.99 dollars.

The Rock Band Music Store includes more than 2,000 tracks from more than 800 artists.
