John Carmack, the co-founder of id Software that has long been known as a hardware guru, believes that the video game that will be launched on the next generation of home consoles will run at 30 FPS, just like the ones that players can now enjoy on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

On Twitter, the developer says, “unfortunately, I can pretty much guarantee that a lot of next gen games will still target 30 fps.”

He did not offer any reason for his statement, but id Software might already have access to working prototypes for the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4.

The most recent releases from id Software, RAGE and Doom 3: BFG Edition, are both running at 60 FPS and many other developers are also aiming for it with current-generation titles.
