Former head of Apple retail, John Browett reveals in a video interview that getting fired from Apple was one of the best things that ever happened to him. He called the experience a truly valuable lesson.

In an interview at the RetailWeek Live conference, Browett (who is now the CEO of Monsoon Accessorize) took a few minutes to comment on his swift departure from Apple last year.

Calling the Cupertino giant “a truly fantastic business,” Browett lauded the organization claiming it was he who didn’t belong there.

“The people are great, they've got great products, it's got a great culture and I loved working there, it's a fantastic business. The issue there was that I just didn't fit within the way they run the business. It was one of those things where you're rejected for fit rather than competency,” he said.

Browett added that the experience proved to be a worthwhile lesson that made him a kinder, deeper person.
