In theory, panoramic video shooting is an appealing concept which might come in-handy when utilized at sporting events, but most systems out there aren’t capable of delivering the true sharp 360-degree experience.

But a new Kickstarter project aims to fulfil this goal, while also throwing 4K into the mix. Shooting in 4K format is the next big thing in videography, but being able to do it in Panorama mode is really something.

Meet Joey, a desktop machine described by the producing company as a “zero-compromise professional quality panoramic camera, allowing capture, broadcast and live two-way teleconferencing in unprecedented 360 degree at up to 4K resolution.”

Joey is built around a custom board and it is made up of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and 13 megapixel sensor.

Joey is seen as the natural progression form Kogeto’s Dot, which was an iPhone add-on that allowed smartphone users to shoot 360 degree videos and, of course, share them with the world.

Now the producing company unleashes this camera which they hope will appeal to videographers looking to shoot at concerts and sporting events. Kogeto believes Joey might prove to be an useful tool in the business environment too, as it can be used for teleconferences.

I can’t help and make a malicious comment, but Joey sort of looks like a blender to my eyes. Nevertheless, if it capable of shooting 4K panoramic videos, we shouldn’t really care, right?

Joey is up on Kickstarter gathering funds for the time being, but early backers might be granted the option of picking up the camera for $1,299 / €1,009 (33% cheaper).
