Joel McHale has been happily married since 1996 but that’s not stopping gay rumors from making their way in the press or online with almost clock-like regularity. As far as he’s concerned, there’s nothing wrong with them.

On the contrary, he says in a new interview with LGBT publication The Advocate.

The “Community” star says he’s perfectly ok with the idea of having a loyal fanbase and even with being perceived as gay himself.

It’s a compliment more than anything else, he says.

“I always find it really weird when guys flip out over someone thinking they might be gay. If a guy gets offended by that, there's something's wrong with him. I take it as a compliment,” the actor reveals.

He’s had years to become accustomed to being considered gay, he continues, recalling a time when he was just starting in Hollywood and men would hit at him constantly.

“Much like in Say Anything, guys usually stand outside my house with a boombox over their head blasting the Indigo Girls,” he jokes.

“Actually, guys sometimes will tweet me, ‘I'm in L.A. Staying at such-and-such hotel. What do you think?’ Of course, it all depends on the quality of the hotel,” he adds laughing.

McHale isn’t the only celebrity to remain completely unfazed by being considered gay. Some time ago, singer – and former American Idol winner – Kelly Clarkson said pretty much the same thing, as we also reported at the time.

Dolly Parton is just as ok with the gay rumors, pretty much like Matt Damon.

“I never denied those rumors because I was offended and didn’t want to offend my friends who were gay – as if being gay were some kind of [expletive]-ing disease. It put me in a weird position in that sense,” Matt said in an interview on the topic.

He too is happily married to a woman.
