“True Blood” star Joe Manganiello has turned author in a bid to help other men looking to get insanely fit and exceptionally healthy do just that. His new bodybuilding book “Evolution” is now out and it’s getting excellent reviews. So here’s an idea for a Christmas present.

Speaking with the New York Daily News the other day, the actor, who has long admitted to working really hard to look as impressive as he does, says that the idea for the book came while training at the gym, after noticing that all the other guys there were “lazy” because they weren’t 100 percent focused on the workout.

Joe’s number one rule when it comes to building muscle mass is that it has to be mind over body, in that you have to push yourself more each day – more than you thought your body could ever take.

“This book is designed to take away people’s excuses. I was not blessed with the genes to put on muscle weight. I’ve never touched a steroid. I had to bust my [butt],” he says. A high school photo of a scrawny Joe confirms that: he was not blessed with this body, he worked to get it and still works to keep it.

The book includes plenty of tips from the actor, but also a diet by Ron Mathews, who created diets for the likes of Hugh Jackman when he needed to bulk up, and a foreword by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

According to the first reviews, “Evolution: The Cutting Edge Guide to Breaking Down Mental Walls and Building the Body You’ve Always Wanted” is the perfect Christmas stocking filler because it doesn’t beat around the bush and it certainly doesn’t sugarcoat anything.

If you want to look at least half as ripped as Manganiello, you have to expect to sweat a lot, to be in pain, to have to work hard. You also have to eat healthy and, reviews say, what makes “Evolution” this good is the fact that it offers tips on how to do both.
