Joe Cole's great form in England's opener at the World Cup did not pass unmarked by his club's officials. The Chelsea midfielder is certainly very happy to have signed a new deal with Roman Abramovic's side. He will still play on Stanford Bridge for the next 4 years, but things are not the same like they used to be a few days ago. And that's mainly related to his future salary.

Joe Cole will earn as much as 125.000 Euros per week for the next 4 seasons, signing a contract in total value of 26 million Euros. This means the English star will earn twice as before. And that's not a very easy thing to do, since he managed to impress Jose Mourinho and will keep on playing in Chelsea's starting line-up.

"I am delighted we have got everything agreed so quickly and I'll be staying at Chelsea for the next four years. The team spirit is fantastic and there was never any doubt in my mind we would agree a new contract. It has not been about money. That part was done a while back. There were a few things to be sorted out and I am glad it has been", said Cole after agreeing to stay with "the blues".

One of the main reasons why Joe Cole managed to squeeze such a good deal with Peter Kenyon is that he wanted to prove all his contesters that he is Chelsea material. Although he could have taken advantage of his position a year ago, he then stated that he wants to put it on hold. And Kanyon couldn't have been more delighted with the result.

"In our two Premiership-winning seasons Joe has been one of our best players. Last summer when contract talks first started he said he wanted to put it on hold for a year because he was confident he would prove he was worth a new deal. Joe has done that. Not only is he important to Chelsea, he is also a first choice for England and showed why against Paraguay", said Kenyon to "The Sun" newspaper earlier today.
