He also confirms that sales are rather small at the moment

Sales of Windows Phone devices might not be at the level Microsoft would have wanted them to be, but it seems that they are approaching it fast.

Speaking to AllThingsD, Microsoft VP Joe Belfiore says that Microsoft is still small in the smartphone area, but that it is growing fast. In fact, Windows Phone is now outselling the iPhone in markets such as India and Latin America.

He also explained that the company had made a lot of enhancements to the mobile operating system so as to bring it in line with what Android and iOS have to offer, despite the fact that not all of these improvements are visible to the user.

“The work we are doing is valuable, and a lot of people aren’t aware of it,” Joe Belfiore reportedly said in an interview.

One of the things that Microsoft will focus on moving forth is the availability of more key applications for the platform. The latest Windows Phone 8 upgrade was announced with support for better, high-end hardware.
