David Cronenberg's crime thriller A History of Violence, starring Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello, had the highest per-theatre average of all the movies in the Top 10 or in wide release, earning $8.2 million (GBP4.5 million) in only 1,340 theatres.
The underwater thriller Into the Blue, starring Paul Walker and Jessica Alba INTO THE BLUE, came forth, with an estimated $7 million (GBP3.8 million).
Meanwhile, Roman Polanski's Oliver Twist remake, flopped on its wide-release debut, earning just $875,000 (GBP486,100) in revenue.
