The team at PC World gave the matter a lot of thought and has put together a 50-item list of most influential people on the Web. They listed 62 people that contributed to making the web what it is today.

Can you imagine the Internet without Google? Or YouTube? Or Yahoo? Or BitTorrent? Or Steve Jobs?? Well, it would be a thought to consider, but we all know that's not going to happen...ever... Ah well, back to the topic.

PC World has listed bloggers, CEOs and "brainiacs" that played a great role in the shaping of the web. They've listed everyone who made a difference, from Meg Whitman at eBay to the controversial blogger Perez Hilton, and here's their leading five:

5th place: Jimmy Wales, Founder of Wikipedia 4th place: Mike Morhaime, President of Blizzard Entertainment Standing ovations please, here's top three: 3rd place: Bram Cohen, Cofounder of BitTorrent 2nd place: Steve Jobs, CEO at Apple 1st place: Eric Schmidt, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin, Executives at Google

So, as you can see, our Mac-making pal not only made it in the top five, but was rated second, after the Google trio of execs. Well done, Mr. Jobs! He has always been, more or less, in media focus, but in recent time he's been getting unbelievable coverage. I must admit I cannot remember a day with no Steve Jobs headline. Everything Jobs does these days seems to be spectacular and/or cause controversy: the iPhone show-off, the "open letter" on DRM, the criticism on teacher unions... I wonder how long all this will last.

For now, Jobs' plan to conquer the world is on its right track, he's the second most influential person on the web. For (much) more information on the Apple CEO and his greatness, keep watching this space.
