"No one in techland had a better year-or a broader impact-than Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs," said BusinessWeek, recognizing his contributions at both Apple and Pixar.
Both Jobs and the "impossibly thin" iPod nano landed a spot on the cover of the latest issue of BusinessWeek, as well as receiving 'Best of 2005' honors.
"Apple
continued to set tech's fashion agenda in 2005 with products such as the iPod nano and the video iPod, as well as the Mac mini, Apple's cheapest computer ever. Indeed, no exec sits astride both the technical and creative worlds as much as Jobs, who also runs powerhouse Pixar Animation Studios, maker of megahits such as Finding Nemo and The Incredibles."
The article also mentions the landmark deal between Apple and Disney to offer TV content via the iTunes Music store, a deal which has set of a chain of other similar deals such as the recent one with NBC and the rumored upcoming deal with ESPN. BusinessWeek noted that the world "watched in awe as Apple blew apart entire distribution networks of established broadcasting and movie empires." The iPod is also noted for having "made its biggest PC market share gains in years-and helped the stock price more than double since Jan. 1, to about $73." While Apple's iTunes sold more than 3 million videos this year and over 100 million songs in Europe.
A good year for Apple, a very good year.
