BAFTA nominated Joaquin Phoenix's car overturned on a canyon road above the Sunset Strip and collided with another vehicle on Thursday after his brakes went out, but there were no reports of injury, police said.
The 31-year-old star of the Johnny Cash biopic 'Walk the Line', was driving eastbound on Lookout Mountain Avenue near Laurel Canyon Boulevard about 2:50 p.m. when he realized his brakes were not working, reported a police spokesman, officer Jason Lee. Phoenix lost control of his car, which overturned and hit another vehicle also headed eastbound as the police officer informed the media.
The two involved parties discussed and agreed not to file a police report. Johnny Cash actor's publicist, Susan Patricola, stated that Phoenix was wearing his seat belt and walked away from the scene after being helped out of his vehicle by a passerby. What is not clear is whether Phoenix's car had any passengers or not.
At the Golden Globe Awards, earlier this month, Phoenix won an award for best actor in a musical or comedy for portraying country legend Cash. He is also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award, which will be handed out Sunday. The same publicist of the actor, Susan Patricola told Us Weekly magazine that he will be at the awards ceremony despite the car accident.
