They tried their hand at a faux documentary (the controversial 2010 “I’m Still Here”) but, this time, director Casey Affleck and actor Joaquin Phoenix are teaming up for the real deal: a film documenting people’s final days.

Deadline reports that National Geographic has commissioned the movie, which will air in the fall of 2013 and is meant as a tribute to the courage of the dying people that will be featured in it.

“The Verité documentary chronicles people’s final days before death, celebrating their lives and legacy through documentary footage, home movies, personal testimonials and interviews with friends and family members,” the trade publication says.

“This is an incredible (project) documenting people in their last days and tackling the notion of death in an uplifting way,” NatGeo president Howard T. Owens says for the same media outlet.

At the moment, further details about the bold (and, without a doubt, touching) project have not been made public. It goes into production this spring.
