Joan Rivers Slams Victoria Beckham as ‘Vulgar’

About a year ago, word got out in the British media that fashionista and fashion designer Victoria Beckham was the proud owner of a collection of Hermes Birkin bags estimated to be worth somewhere around £1.5 million. Whether this is entirely accurate or not will never be known, though it’s a fact that she owns many such bags. This is also why Joan Rivers has branded her “vulgar” (story via here).

According to the television personality, who is definitely not a stranger to luxury (by far, some might actually say), Mrs. Beckham is in desperate need of a life. Instead of just parading around town only to show off her most prized possessions, be they the latest IT bag or the hottest pair of shoes or one of her latest creations, Victoria should think of the many people who have no money to afford proper food. No one is saying not to buy such expensive bags – just show some consideration.

“Victoria Beckham should get a life. I’m not a fan of outrageous consumption. I think it is vulgar. And no-one should flaunt that they have a hundred Hermes £6,000 bags. Not when people are starving. Everyone should be allowed to have a great time but she shows a distinct lack of class,” Rivers told one British tabloid. To this, a source close to Victoria came to her defense in the most unintentionally funny way, saying, “Victoria does not own hundreds of Hermes bags. She actually has 34.”

However, as we were also telling you a while back, judging by the paparazzi snaps available on line, estimates would put her collection of Birkin bags (her top favorite for being exclusive and very hard to come by) at around 100 pieces, including the “Silver Himalayan” that she got from her husband, of which only three models are available and that sells for £80,000. Just so you can get the idea of how valuable these totes are, you should know that in order to get one such Birkin bag (and we’re talking of “regular” models, those that come at a starting price of £2,700), celebrities join waiting lists, waiting up to 2 years to have their choice ready and delivered.

Then again, with Joan Rivers being the poster child for plastic surgery, maybe this is a case of pot calling the kettle black, it is being said.
