Whether you like her or not, find offense with some of her jokes or find them hilarious, comedienne Joan Rivers does have a point: if you can laugh at a problem, it makes it smaller and you can move past it more easily. Life is easier if you allow yourself the chance to be entertained by comedians.

After a very busy week, Rivers stopped by Access Hollywood to talk about her new book, “Diary of a Mad Diva,” and, of course, her outburst of a few days ago, when she got so furious with a CNN reporter that she simply got up and walked out on her.

As you can see in the video below, Rivers insists that she was being interrogated and not interviewed by the CNN journalist, and she even says that the woman should pay her for putting her on the map.

“You know me, I’m 50 years in the business first time I’ve walked off. You’ve got to understand when you interview someone, it’s not an interrogation, you know it’s not the Nuremberg trials… you don’t say to the Olsen Twins ‘what’s your favorite place to vomit?’…I’m sorry for her because she shouldn’t be doing a comedy interview. You don’t say to Oscar Pistorius ‘when you killed your girlfriend were you hopping mad?’ The questions were coming out so negatively I found myself defending myself,” Rivers says.

Clearly, Rivers doesn’t hold back and that’s always been her style: even in this quote, she doesn’t shy away from making a joke about the Olsens’ struggle with eating disorders from their earlier years, or even about a more current issue, the ongoing murder trial that sees double-amputee athlete Pistorius charged with the brutal killing of his model girlfriend.

The way Rivers sees, we’re living in a time in which we’re no longer safe to joke about anything because of political correctness. Political correctness will be the death of us because it makes everything into an issue and thus prevents us from laughing about it, and then we take it out on comedians, whose only job here is to make us laugh.

By this reasoning, Rivers feels she should be allowed to say anything she pleases about anyone on earth or any topic she chooses, as long as it’s a joke, a statement that many will not agree to, most likely.

Regardless, she is funny in her dedication on her most recent book. In case you haven’t had the chance or aren’t even planning to pick it up, it’s dedicated to rapper Kanye West, who once said he was a “proud non-reader of books.” A truly “nice message” to send to his younger fans, Joan sneers.

“So I said in my dedication I dedicated this book to Kanye because I know no effing way would he read it,” she adds. Touché.
