14 DAY TRIAL // Today, Doctor Gwen Korovin, the one who supposedly performed the botched biopsy on Joan Rivers that eventually led to her demise, came out of hiding and was spotted by paparazzi around New York. However, her version of the story is totally different from what you've heard on the news.
Sources close to Korovin have told TMZ that the doctor denies the CNN version of the story that she stopped her operation to snap a selfie with an unconscious Joan Rivers and that she performed an unauthorized biopsy.
Doctor denies the CNN report, claims there was no selfie and no biopsy performed
The sources insist that the media's version of the facts is “absolutely wrong,” despite the story published by CNN which claimed to be reported by a member of the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic who was in the operating room at the time. The doctor's friends are saying the unnamed member of the staff is “making up lies.”
As for the unauthorized biopsy, there was apparently a procedure done on Joan but the doctor claims it was not a biopsy. When asked what it was that she actually did in the operating room, she declined to give a clear answer.
Several of her patients have come forward to testify of the doctor's skills
As a testament to the doctor's skills and fame, several of her former patients came forward to defend her, claiming that she has an “unblemished” record, as well as being the “go-to” ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctor in New York.
Her patient list includes several A-list celebrities, which have not yet come forward to defend her, but their mere presence in her office gives her an impressive edge in the case.
Since the news of Joan's death hit the media, Lawrence Cohen, he doctor who performed the endoscopy has resigned from the clinic and also stepped down from his position as director.
Both doctors involved in the operation are getting lawyers in preparation for the investigation
Some sources close to the case are being quoted by Radar when they say that a malpractice lawsuit is just around the corner. Both Korovin and Cohen are said to be lawyering up and are prepared to be questioned by investigators.
“Both physicians are preparing to be questioned by the New York Medical Examiner’s Office and the New York Health Department about the circumstances surrounding Joan’s death. The New York Police Department is also involved in the investigation, but the medical examiner’s office has the lead on it,” the source claimed.
But the source was also careful to point out that “Neither doctor is accused of any criminal wrongdoing at this stage of the investigation.”
