2K Games has announced that the recently launched gangster thriller Mafia II will be getting new content on September 7 with players being able to pick up a new downloadable content pack called Jimmy's Vendetta, set to show off another side of the mob story told in the main game.

The new content will contain more than 30 quests that take place in the sprawling world of Empire Bay and also adds leaderboard ranking for players.

The missions in Jimmy's Vendetta will include assassinations and time vehicle pursuits that are set to be more of a challenge than the missions included in the single player campaign of Mafia II.

The DLC will also include multipliers and combos that can be earned via precise kills and spectacular moves, allowing players to compete for high scores on the leaderboards.

2K Games is trying to emphasize the replayability of the new content saying that Jimmy's Vendetta can be replayed many time over by those obsessed to have better scores than their friends.

Players will be able to get the DLC for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC and the price is set at 800 Microsoft Points, which is the equivalent of 9.99 dollars for other platforms.

Mafia II was created by 2K Czech and published by Take Two, allowing players to explore the atmosphere of American city life as it unfolded during the decades immediately after World War II.

The game includes many of the same mechanics as the first game in the series and looks gorgeous, especially when using a PC setup with the Nvidia three dimensional technology.

Critics have attacked the game for the limited impact of its story and for the long and rather boring driving sequences, while others have praised the acting for the gangster characters and the solidly designed shooting sequences.

In brief, to compensate for a mediocre story and very limited replay value, the company is now releasing DLCs at $9.99 on top of the $59.99 paid by gamers for the game, to add some spice? No thanks.

Jimmy's vendetta is rubbish. It has no story and the intro to the missions are a couple of sentences you have to read. All the missions include is, go here steal that car, smash those crates, kill this man. Not involving at all. Luckily it came free with the ps3 I feel sorry for anyone who will pay for this. I have it on hard and it is so so easy. Totally shocking. I would rather play the main storyline over.

Um, no. The DLC that came free with the PS3 version of the game is something different entirely, and was included to try and make up for the technical inferiority of the PS3 version of Mafia II. Don't be misleading.
