eSurance saves money on Super Bowl 2014 ad, gives it away to lucky couple

Many millions of dollars are spent each year on advertising space at the Super Bowl but, for the XLVIII edition, eSurance wanted to make a difference and, for once, change someone’s life for the better.

Instead of having their most recent ad airing during the big game, eSurance aired it after and gave away the money it saved: about $1.5 million (€1.1 million) of it.

They had Jimmy Kimmel and John Krasinski, who is actually the spokesperson for the company, break the happy news to the winner themselves. A sweepstakes was organized on Twitter to help pick a winner.

His name is John and he lives in North California. He recently married and he has a baby on the way, “or so he says,” Krasinski jokes.

Because this will probably bring more publicity than a Super Bowl ad, eSurance had the entire, very touching moment the winner gets the news – and the money at his door – captured on camera. You can see it in the video above.
