When even some of her most loyal fans doubt her marriage to Kris Humphries was real, Kim Kardashian probably knows to expect to be made the butt of all jokes in the industry. Jimmy Kimmel gave her a taste of her own medicine the other night.
Dressed in a gorilla suit for Halloween, Kimmel made a brief and hilarious intro to the faux trailer to the Kardashian divorce special, which he believes is the next step in reality television for the Kardashian clan, and Kim in particular.
“[Kim] has decided not to pick his [Kris] option up for another season. It's a shame. I thought they'd be together for at least another 5 to 10 Us Weekly covers,” Kimmel says in the intro.
He then goes on to make light of the statements Kim has released since confirming she's filed for divorce, including a plea for privacy, which he interprets as a request for the exact opposite.
“Kim has asked that her fans give her a complete lack of privacy during this time,” he says, before admitting that “I feel kind of cheated by all this.”
Kimmel admits he watched the wedding special on E! and cried the entire time, but now that the two are getting divorced, he wants “those 11 hours of my life back now.”
The trailer for the new E! Special comes up next: called “Kim and Kris Kall It Kwits,” it's supposed to document Kim's journey to the decision that she didn't want to be married to Kris anymore, while paving the way for another wedding special.
As hilarious as the segment is, it's not the only one that uses Kim's divorce as a punchline: Jay Leno and David Letterman also joked about the divorce and the ridiculously short-lived marriage.
“To their credit, they did try 20 minutes of counseling. It just didn't work,” Jay Leno said on his show, while Letterman joked about the things the two might have to split up once their marriage is legally over.
“They started bickering at the altar – now they're fighting over custody of the cake,” Letterman said.
