Andy Roddick may become one of America's greatest tennis players. And even if you believe that's a little bit exaggerated - since the American did not manage to win one tournament this season - his new coach is going to do all in his power to help his compatriot with his play. From yesterday night, Jimmy Connors, is Andy Roddick's new coach. And, if a former champ like Connors won't be able to do it, than Roddick can kiss his career goodbye.
Still, both sportsmen are very confident of this collaboration. And it will mainly help Andy regain
his confidence after a truly disastrous season. He didn't win any tournament this year and he faced some really early exits in both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. And, more than the injuries he had to go through, he was really concerned with his lack of confidence. Still, after reaching the Indianapolis International Championships final last weekend, he could get back on track.
With a great confidence and a strong arm, Andy Roddick could very well challenge both roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the ATP Tour title. Still, it's a long way to go and both Connors and Roddick realize that. As for Jimmy, he's very confident in his future pupil and believes Roddick can really make a difference in the ATP Tour: "It's not rocket science; my job is quite simply to make Andy the best player he can be. I would like to try to give him a little bit of what made me what I was".
Roddick, though, is very impressed with his new coach and promised his fans that he's going to do everything in his power to get back on the winning streak. "First of all, it's just belief. It means a lot when someone who has won as many tennis championships as Jimmy Connors comes through and says, 'I believe in you. I think you can really do some great things, and here's how'", said Roddick, explaining his choice for the season. It is yet unknown how much will their "partnership" last, since the details of their contract remained secret.
