Mobile Technologies has just announced the availability of “Jibbigo”, the translation app for Android devices. Initially launched for the the iOS platform one year ago, this is one of the best selling applications for speech-to-speech language translation.

The developer claims that Jibbigo is the only voice translation app that works without an internet or phone connection.

“We’re very excited to bring Jibbigo translators to the Android platform," said Dr. Alex Waibel, Mobile Technologies’ Founder and Chairman.

“With the explosive growth in the number of devices supporting Android apps, this significantly expands the number of people who can use our voice translators worldwide,” continued Waibel.

The iPhone app also marked a premiere for the developer, as Jibbigo was the first software to make its way into the App Store's “Speech-to-Speech Translators” category.

With Jibbigo, users simply speak into the phone in one language and get the translation in another language automatically.

The Android version of Jibbigo supports translations between English and any of the following languages: Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Korean, Iraqi Arabic and Filipino (Tagalog).

Android fans will be able to use the application while traveling abroad without worrying about extra roaming charges or fear of losing connectivity.

In addition to translations of spoken languages, Jibbigo is capable of scanning and recognizing other language signs and translate them into English by using an algorithm based on OCR technology.

The application has a database of more than 40,000 words from all the supported languages and the number is constantly increasing as the the developer has used auto-learning algorithms, which rely on learning and adding new words from input data.

As a side note, the Jibbigo Japanese-English translator became a top-selling app in Japan within the first two weeks of its launch, back in May.
